You may or may not have noticed some things lately. For one, it’s been like 2 months since I last posted anything (… whoops!) Now I was going to give a rather long and exhaustive reason as to why I haven’t, but I really can’t be fucked. Honestly, I haven’t had time to write anything of late, it’s been a little sad. Though, come to think of it, there have been times where I’d just be sitting at my desk listening to Howard Stern and doing nothing else. Last time I started to write something, I just sat and looked at the screen for a while and gave up. But I’m here now, so don’t fear too much. The other thing you you might have noticed was that I’ve completely moved to jarryd.net. Ironically, it was more of a spur of the moment thing that I did move though. I’ll go through the story though, just for keepsake. About a month or so I was preparing myself for bed (and by that mean I was sitting in front of my computer thinking to myself, “it’s late, I should really go to bed”) when I got an email (this was about 11:30PM) from my original hosters. Strange I thought, why would I be getting an email from them, I haven’t complained about anything lately.
It seems like your site it’s getting hit hard today, it’s using over the 25% of the CPU usage making the whole site goes slow, please take the appropriate measures in order of prevent this otherwise we will be forced to suspend your account in order of protect the server stability.
…What. At this point I’m wondering what the fuck was going on, until after I had a quick peak at the logs. Apparently, Totallycrap.com has decided to direct link to one of my galleries, more specifically the Miss Bikini World photos(http://www.totallycrap.com/magazine/miss_bikini_australia/). Fuck. I literally spent the next 2 hours diverting any and all traffic from one host to the other. By the time I had finished forwarding things and making everything work again, it was around 1am, and my machine (that’s currently hosting everything you see now) is pushing out around 2MB/s constantly. that’s 2MB/s of images. Static images. That’s a buttload of traffic. A metric asston if you please. Keep in mind, only a week prior to this happening, I had just finished setting up my server to handle me moving over after 3 weeks, not instantly. To bloat my ego though, it did handle the traffic pretty awesomely. I was quite proud. That was only part of the reason as to why I finally moved over to this domain. The other day I had received a pre-invoice invoice from my hosts and I thought it was time to save some money and completely move over to the other server I have. For the most part, that means nothing to nearly everyone that visits here, but it does mean I’ll be able to do what I want with my site. Downtime and slow loading times should be next to none (unless I’m breaking the server on purpose.)
Let’s see, what’s happened since February. Well, I got a new lens (yes, another.) This was the lens I was going to buy before I bought my last one. By god, it is my favourite lens to date. I was having fun before with the lenses I had, I’m having a whole shit load more fun with this lens. Originally, I was going to buy the wider one before I bought the longer one, but fate had it that I kind of needed the longer one before that (remember the Miss Bikini Comps.) But for now, I’m incredibly content with my lens collection now. Unfortunately, due to the fact that my collection has suddenly become incredibly huge, I’m going to have to buy another bag to accommodate everything I have now. In itself isn’t too bad, but that also means I’m going to have more shit laying around my room!
Honestly, I’m having a hard time trying to write this post, simply because I can’t remember what I’ve done in the past.. month. Not so much that I can’t remember what I’ve done, but more so I haven’t done anything that I should really remember. I mean, normally there would be interesting things happen to me after work, or while I was at work. But now, I dunno, it’s kind of like I’ve just stopped doing interesting things. By the same token, I’m not doing what I used to either. I mean, I “work” during the week at Kmart (which I’m trying to my hardest to leave there.) When I say I work, I merely turn up there and wander around aimlessly for a good 7 hours and come home again. I’ve all but exhausted most wandering around photo taking opportunities here aswell, which is a pain in my ass. Before, it’d be a case of heading out after work and getting photos of things and playing around with that, but there’s only so much you can do with the same thing. Speaking of work though, I still can’t believe I’m there. The amount of shit that goes on there is absolutely retarded. The number of times Jono and I wonder why things are done the way they are is incredible. During the day, there’s basically me and Jono at the back, depending on what they want done, it’s generally Jono that they go and speak to. Oh, the other thing, for 2/4 days that he’s there, he’s only there for half a day. They won’t come and speak to me to do things (they being Ted and Tim), nope, it’s like they refuse to speak to me. 99% of the time it goes through Jono and he comes and speaks to me about it anyway. I dunno why, but it’s stupid. He waits for half of the day to go by, and then realises a couple of hours before most of the staff that turn up to do the shit that he should go and get things ready. It boggles the mind. I’ve come to realise that it’s no use trying to fight for things to get done, or at least done properly. There are some things I’ll flatly refuse to do simply because I know they’ll want the exact opposite done 10 minutes later, but I’ve just learnt to do what they ask most of the time. What’s funny though, is that because Johnny is leaving (next week I think?) their massive plan is to put Duke in Johnny’s position (basically a supervisor) and have Tim in charge of “inventory.” My god. I think I just about nearly keeled over and pissed myself laughing when I heard that. Let’s take a moment to recollect ourselves and realise that Duke’s spent the entirety of his Kmart life upstairs and out of the way of mosts things involved in there. IE: He’d have no clue about what to do if we’re suddenly inundated with 20 containers. Now Tim is a whole other subject. You might recall me saying I wouldn’t give him the benefit of the doubt of anything if asked. I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again, I try not to give him and kind of respect at all, ’cause I think he’s an absolute retard. Could you imagine if he were “in charge” of me? I think I’d just about punch him in the vagina. Think of it this way, he’s that friend that no one invites out, but still manages to find out where you are and stay with you the rest of the night.
Let’s see, I’m trying to work out how far I’m behind in updating most people. I think for the most part, there’s nothing else to really “update” on. I’m still working at Kmart, I’m still doing the photos for Discovery and I’m still wanting to go on a holiday. It’s weird how long this has taken me to write. Considering I’ve had the start of this post on my drive for about 2 weeks, it’s been a little while. I’ve started to regularly listen to Howard Stern at night though. Basically between 8 and midnight, I’m essentially doing nothing, but I’m unable to do anything between then either. It’s stupid, I’ve tried to write during Howard, but I can’t pay attention to either if I start writing. I know for a fact though, I’ll fall back into the same rut after this post if I don’t go out and do things. I need a holiday. Shit, if I’m on a holiday, I’d be posting everyday. But right now, I’ve got absolutely nothing to write about.
Oh! Before I end this post I’ll talk about some of the people I’ve meet. Well, not so much as meet, but seen. The other week Tommy Lee was up here! Holy crap! Ok, maybe not so much holy crap for many people, but I was really excited to hear the music they were going to be playing. Tommy Lee and DJ Aero were meant to play on a Thursday night in Discovery, which was pretty cool. It was hilarious watching the people who turned up to see him though. I mean, when people hear his name dropped, I imagine a lot of people would never have thought he’d be up here DJing for the night. Typical though, the majority of people who were out were either old, or old metalheads. Anyway, the majority of the night flies by, and he hasn’t rocked up yet. By like 1:30, he finally arrives (apparently his flight was delayed) and after 45 minutes of this big huge guy setting up his.. setup, they finally start to play. The only shitty part of the night was that he didn’t want any shots up close (which you can understand a bit), so that was kind of a cunt. By the end of the night we (Michael, Josh and I) were trying to get a photo of Michael and Josh with Tommy lee. (Michael and Josh being DJ’s Flash and UK) Thing was, Michael had asked Tommy if he could grab a photo who had said yes, but neglected to tell this giant blob of a man. Instead, we were standing at the back stairs waiting for Tommy when this massive creature tumbled over to us and was like:
Massive Creature Blob: “WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU” (Thick American accent)
Me: “Uihh?!”
Michael: “We’re just going to get a photo with..”
MCB: “NO YOU AREN’T. NO CAMERAS UP HERE DUDE”
Michael: “But we DJ here”
MCB: “WHAT DID I JUST SAY. FUCK OFF”
Ok. I’m not fucking around with this bloke, I turned around and started to head back, but Michael wanted a photo. So I stood around and waited for a little longer. It wasn’t long before we tried again (I assumed it was ok with this creature that we walked up there.)
MCB: “WHAT ARE YOU DOING BACK HERE AGAIN. FUCK OFF”
Me: “Oh god I dunno”
MCB: “NO MORE PHOTOS FROM YOU. FROM HERE OR IN FRONT”
Me:![]()
When they finally finished and were just about to leave was when we got the photo. Even then, we (and by we I mean most other people ’cause I didn’t have much to say) were standing outside talking to them for a bit. I’ll blame Massive Creature Blob for that. Other than that, it was a really decent night. Who else. Oh, Mark Sherry come back up too! It’s always awesome when he does come up here, ’cause it’s a lot of the stuff I like listening to. What was cooler, was that he remembered me from last time (with my photos when he was last here.) As if things couldn’t get any cooler, he loved my photos! Woo! On a quick note before I let my photos do the talking, David Forbes was up here last Thursday. Now, I’ve never seen with my camera before, and honestly, I don’t think I’ve heard him play here either. Anyway, I got introduced to him and apparently he already knew me. Knew my photos at least! Him and Mark are friends, so he must have said something to David that way.
