Glass Ambience

Ferment

Monday, March 12th, 2007

It’s been a little too long since my update, and honestly, I haven’t had the time to sit down and write anything. Slack of me, I know, but uni has been keeping me busy. I’m either at uni all day, come home for half an hour, head off to work, come home and sleep only to do it the next day. Mind you, I am getting some sleep compared to myself 12 months ago which is good, I just need to keep that going for the rest of my life. So far, uni has been really good, I’m doing something that I know things about. I’m not walking into a class to sit there and thing “what the fuck are you going on about?” That, and I’m not falling asleep 10 minute into the class, so it’s all good. If I had a chance to go back and take a year off after year 12 to just go nuts (like I did anyway) I would have. Unfortunately, I think I’d still be in the same predicament that I am today. Although, that predicament doesn’t have anything to do with uni, so that’s alright. To preface this, I can see it being a long one too. Get comfy!

Like I said, I think I finally have my sleeping pattern back in order and I’m so glad for that. The beauty of my timing is impecible though, but I’m get more into that later. Remember how I was saying that I was going to invest in a laptop for uni? Well, tuesday come around and I was heading out to uni and I cannot remember how the conversation was brought up, but I was talking to mum about buying a laptop to make it easier for me in uni and stuff like that. Normally when I bring something like that up the conversation is always one sided and I’m always met with some kind of negative attitude towards the thing (take me buying my monitor for example.) Shockingly enough, it was the opposite and when I was saying that I’d probably wait a couple of weeks before I buy it so I have the money to pay dad back. Fuck that was essentially the response I got from her. Buy it now! Jesus christ. She was almost pushing me into buying the damn thing. Needless to say, I was turning around back into my room and buying the damn thing 5 minutes later. It was only a waiting game after that, and considering the past couple of Apple things that I bought from there had come almost the next day, I was hoping it would get here quicksmart. Fortunately, I had a couple of things going on over the week to keep my mind at bay. One, was Nick’s going away party. Considering the last time that I had any large amounts of alcohol was for his 19th last november, I was kind of looking forward to it, and dreading it at the same time.

I was around Nick’s house thursday after uni and before work planning the next night and having some quiet beers while Nick, Terry and Jonno were sliding out the front of Nick’s house on a giant tarp in the rain. Originally it was going to be just a quiet night around Nick’s house the night before the party, but after I finished worked I find that Terry and Nick had headed out to the “grand opening” of Honeypots. Yes, the “Grand Opening!” and I say that lightly, because the joint hadn’t changed since I was last there, so I wasn’t too sure what they were grandly opening (other than what was on the stage! Hurrr) and I was quickly getting bored of the place. Terry was there talking to his friends or some shit like that, and Nick and I were increasingly bored. It wasn’t too long before Nick suggested we headed over to Discovery to see what that was like, and it wasn’t any better. While in there, I saw Jodie, and that was about it. I didn’t recognise too many people in there, but that didn’t surprise me.

Friday come around and I was slowly puttering around the house before heading off to Nick’s house, burning some cds and things like that. Oh, I was watching an Armin Van Buuren DVD (Armin Only 2006 if you’re wondering) I got the other day and wishing that there were concerts like that up here. But I digress. I headed over to Nick’s around 3 and proceeded to slowly start drinking myself into an abyss. What sucked about friday though, was that it was a continual downpour and it didn’t lighten up at all during the day. In addition to the rain, it was overcast and it was messing with the time. Like, I hadn’t been there long, and it suddenly felt like it was around 7 at night and people were going to be rocking up some time soon. Not even close. At one point it felt like that, and it was only 4 in the afternoon. It wasn’t too long before we were all fed and most of us had finished a little under a six pack each, so we were all having fun by that point. Much like the last party at Nick’s house (which, ironically enough, I wasn’t writing back then) he had some friend that had some audio system setup and they were the designated DJs for the night. When they were setting up, I offered my CDs to them hoping that some good music was going to be played, but I had an inkling that wasn’t going to be the case. After a little while, the back where all the olds’ sit (read: those over 18, ie us) had run out of chairs, so Daryl and I camped out the front where there was a seat. It was funny, because when people turned up, they saw both my horrible lookin’ face and Daryl at the same time. We had some laughs when they tried running around the back without getting wet, it was good. After a while it turned out we had some kind of corroboree out the front and most people assumed that this was where the party was going to be. Much like normal, I got sick of being where most people were and headed back out the back to join those I knew. Mind you, by this time, it was only around 8:30 or something close to that, so it wasn’t even close to being started.

It was rather an uneventful party though, and personally it was probably the best one he’s had. It was the right combination of people and alcohol, so I was having fun. There was a point in the night when I just got bored of people and I sat inside and talked with Marina for an hour or so while the Silence of the Lambs was on TV. After a while I wandered back out the front to see what people were up to and Daryl was standing at the gate. I’m not sure what was running through my mind at that point, but these little kids were coming in and Daryl had started to let them in. What do I do? What any “sane” drunk man would, request a display of a dance as their entry fee. The beauty of parties at Nick’s house is that I’ll never ever see these kids again (unless they happen to find my site) so I don’t care what they think of me. I had fun. It was probably around 2 when everyone was started to slowly get migrated outside the fence and told to fuck off and unfortunately for myself I knew I had to get home to sleep before work. Well, when I was grabbing most of my shit I realise that hey, where the fuck are my CDs at. Boom slash cunt fuck. That dirty cunt that was doing the music had fucked off with them. Oh I was mad. I was drunk, and mad. He’s lucky I took out my Tool CDs too, otherwise I would have hunted the fucker down the moment I found out where he lived. Instead, I got Nick to message him and ask if he had accidently taken them. The conversation went something like:

Nick: “Hey, you didn’t happen to take Jarryd’s CDs with you?”
Adam: “Nah, I didn’t see them”
(I was 100% he took them at this point, and Nick said he saw them in the front seat)
Nick: “Are you sure, he needs them. Can you go and check your car for them?”
Adam: “Oh yeah, they are, someone must have put them in there”
Nick: “Can you drop them around, jarryd needs them”
Adam: “I can’t, I’m at [some chick's] place”

By then, the message intervals were getting longer and longer, and I was getting more tired as they went on. I only want my CDs damnit! Fuck you! Fuck you for stealing them and lying about it fucker. Eventually, I was about to go home when he was apparently at Alawa shops waiting. Fuck you, I’m not coming there to get them. I said to Nick to just tell him to drop them off tomorrow or something like that and I’ll grab them when I come around. I went home and slept for the better part of 3 hours and went off to work still slightly drunk and more tired than I should have been. Fortunately for myself, lunch couldn’t come any quicker (3pm fuckers, late lunch!) and I sat around people watching for the majority of it. After a little bit of people watching, Jodie joined me and we caught up because I hadn’t seen her for too long, and she had been in Singapore for a couple of weeks and only just got back. What I got out of saturday? I caught up with Jodie, and I bought the new Nine Inch Nails halo. Plurjeah! After work I proceeded to crash for a couple of hours and headed over to Nick’s hoping to keep things quiet, just chilling with Daryl, Terry, Charles, Amy, and a couple of friends of Ashley’s that apparently got the night mixed up for the party (at least, that’s the reason I gave them to myself.) After a little bit at Nick’s house we headed over to Fat Jack’s place before we went off to the Beachfront for Jess’ going away thing. Being the prepared piece of meat I am, I brought alone a huge umbrella to Fat Jack’s house and went to town with it! It was lucky too, because when it was decided that we were going to head over to the Beachfront, it was pissing down with rain. There we are, Hayden, Nick, Jono, and myself underneath this golf umbrella fit for maybe two people, three if you were lucky. It was possibly the gayest thing if you happen to have been looking outside of your window, or driving along, but it was so much fun. We got to the Beachfront and went out to meet everyone and sat down. I dunno, I kind of felt disconnected from everyone, as conversation was kind of lacklustre. A little before 11 it was decided that we were going to head into town and meet everyone in there, or something like that, instead Nick and I went on a mission to go and collect my CDs. And we did just that.

Only half an hour after we left the Beachfront, we were back at Nick’s house with Hayden in tow and heading into town. I think it was mutual feeling, but I don’t think neither of us wanted to be there, but I think Nick wanted to go out just to see the last of a few people before he shipped out. Neither of us had the energy for the night, and it was showing. I was standing at the rail chatting to Wee Man and Nick was off talking to a few random people he knew and it wasn’t before long until we were both sitting down on a couch just relaxing, feet up and everything. It would have only been around half past 12, and I was ready to fall asleep on that couch when the weirdest thing happened. Jess was sitting either on the arm of the couch Nick and I were on chatting to Jessie when suddenly some big ‘ole dude come running up and kind of flew into someone. I wasn’t paying enough attention to really care too much. The next couple of seconds involved Nick and I watching this fight errupt not a metre from where we sat and saw everyone fly in to try and break it up, including Jess. I dunno, Nick and I were probably the only ones that didn’t react at all to the situation in front of us, it was brilliant. After another second or so, I realised Jess was on the floor being trampled on and picked her up and she sat down on the couch and that about it. By then I’d had enough of town and those in there and Nick and I headed off. A quick HI-BYE to Jodie and we were out of there quicker than you could say “your mother.” Unfortunately, that was the last that I saw of Nick, as I had to go to class all day that he was leaving.

My MacbookI kept to myself the following week biding my time until Apple sent my stuff and send it they did. I was hoping and praying that it was going to get here tuesday some time, and it would have been brilliant because I didn’t have a class until 1, so I could have played with it until then. Fortunately it did arrive in Darwin on tuesday, but by 11am, I had rung up TNT and asked what was going on. Apparently their plan had broken down or something like that and they had no idea what was on the plane and it would be delayed until the next day. Damnit! I got up at 8 in the morning assuming it’d be like the last time I got something from TNT (which was around 9 in the morning.) I went to uni and work feeling rather dejected and went to sleep early to do the same thing the next day. The next day come, and it wasn’t until around 11 that it was delivered. Oh god I was excited, it was depressing. What proceeded after that was me ripping it all apart and taking random pictures of it all so I could document it later on. Jesus, I was so surprised when I turned it on. I nearly pissed my pants. I knew the moment that I had taken it out of the box that it was the best purchase I had made for a long time. What was brilliant about it all, was that it picked up my wireless straight away and I was no sooner on the net and everything. You’ll have to ask me to see it, it’s fuckin’ brilliant.

Nothing much else happened after that, I wandered around to Dripstone and spoke to Herrod and showed her my latest purchase. Saturday wandered around and Daryl and I headed around to Michael’s place for his birthday party. Originally, my plan was going to be when everyone was going to head off to town to go home, but no one was going to town, so I stayed around and had a swim and sat around chatting to everyone. It was good for a while.

Keep checking back, I’ll write some kind of personal in the next day or so. Until then.
