I’ve been unable to produce any content for the past week or so and I have no idea why. It’s not that I don’t want to write anything, it’s that I have nothing to write about. The way I see it, I’ve got writer’s block and I can’t find anything that will put me past that. It sucks in a way, because I have wanted to write something or anything the past few days, I just haven’t been able to get anything written. It’s kind of like most things I’m doing now though. I want to be writing, I want to be doing something, I just can’t find the motivation to get me started. It’s kind of like I need to get more people reading my site again, but the only way that I can get people to read my site is if I write something worth reading. Damn catch22. But if you haven’t noticed, I’ve created a new “section” I suppose where I write things that come to my head and leave only moments later. Take a look at my Thoughts!
I suppose I could update people on what I’ve been doing the past couple of days. Come to think about it, I haven’t really told anyone what I’ve done the past few days. It’s been interesting though, because no one has really asked. Remember how I was saying that I was kind of worried about getting into Uni? Well, I’ve told three people since then, and I’ll let those who read this know now. I found out thursday afternoon that I got accepted into the course I wanted, so that’s a whole lot off my back. It’s funny though, it was only a couple of nights before thursday that I was speaking with Aaron (The guy with the monaro
) and I have the potential to be someone that the Government would be looking for to hire. I think if I didn’t end up getting into uni, I might have gone that route and see how it went. I wouldn’t have thought it’d be possible to get a job without any sort of certification, I mean, the closest I’ve got to certification is my NTCE. Even anything I’ve written code wise, it’s all just something that I’ve needed or decided to write when I wrote it. Who knows.
What followed after the conversation with Aaron, was me ruining the carpet. Quite literally. From the Wikipedia article on the Octopus:
Most octopuses can eject a thick blackish ink in a large cloud to aid in escaping from predators.
Now, something like this would apply if: I was under attack, oh, and if I were an octopus. Unfortunately, it was neither. Instead I had brought up the old printer that “does not work” which I thought the only problem was that it didn’t print any sort of colour picture out well. Perfect, I only needed it to print out some coding manuals so I could brush up some skills. Unfortunately, that was the only part that wasn’t working. The fuckin’ thing would print out anything but black. The three other colours (cyan, yellow and magenta) were working to some extent. What I thought began as an awesome thought, turned out to be another fizzer. Brilliant. Mind you, this is after taking 20 minutes to find where Dad had hidden the damn USB cable for the fuckin’ thing, only to realise that the part that plugs into the printer wasn’t long enough to plug in. Jesus. After accepting defeat, I grabbed everything as to save another trip downstairs and took it all at once where I returned to my computer to whatever the hell I was doing. This would have been around 1:30 in the afternoon. By that time, I didn’t have a need to leave, so I didn’t move much until about 4pm when my sister and mum are home. It was then that my sister realised something was on the floor, except it was more like “Ew, what’s this on the floor?” After noticing that she had said something, I had caught the end of her statement and I realised what she was talking about. There were ink splots leading from my room all down the hallway, onto the floor in the lounge room, and downstairs where I had set the printer down. Fuck. I wasn’t too worried about the ink in my room because it was old shitty carpet, but the ink in the hallway. The hallway has only recently had carpet replaced. Brand new fuckin’ carpet with black ink spots all down the center of it. How is it that the black wouldn’t work when I was trying to print shit out, but it’ll want to leak all over the fuckin’ carpet?
What else. The past couple of weeks I’ve had Dad’s computer running random hard drivers from a computer that I had blown some capacitors from and it wasn’t until this past week that I realise how hot it’s been making my room. It’s kind of hard to explain, but what happened was Dad’s new computer decided it was going to spark and fizzle when a really big bolt of lightning struck somewhere in Darwin (yet none of my computers took the same fate) and I had to replace his new power supply with the one from the old machine. Effectively, it wasn’t until a week or so ago that his old machine wasn’t running. Before it was, giant CRT sitting on my desk plus this old computer generating the most heat in my room. After getting my new monitor my room was noticibily cooler without Dad’s old machine running. In other words, this computer was the bane of my computer usage, and where I rest my legs when on the computer was right on this machine and I couldn’t leave them there for long without my feet getting hot. What I’m getting to is that I thought I’d be nice (oh, and try to make up for spilling ink on the carpet) and finally get the computer “ready” for my sister. There was also the mitigating factors that my parents kept annoying the shit out of me to get it setup for her.
Parents/Sister: “Have you installed that computer for Jordan/[me] to use yet?”
Me: “No, why does she need it now?”
P/S: “Uihh.. school?”
Me: “”
I found myself doing something social friday night, even though I was planning on going to bed early. Around 11 I spoke to Nick and was convinced to head out to town for “a quiet night” considering we both had work the very next day. After waiting for Daryl, we headed into town and went into Disco. A number of things stood out the moment I walked in: they still played the shitty music from a month ago, and it’s still the same shitty music from a month ago. Nothing else had changed (apart from apparently the mullet being a cool hairdo to have) which didn’t surprise me. We wandered up to where Chris had mentioned that most of the group were and said the hellos. It felt good being out, seeing those I hadn’t seen for a while and feeling like a part of something again. Unfortunately for me, I forced myself to leave early and get some kind of sleep as I knew saturday at work was going to be the biggest pain in the ass. I wasn’t wrong. It was planned out that Tom and myself were going out to the warehouse and clean up (generally involves putting pallets in fixtures, and making it look semi tidy.) After hearing stories of Rod taking Troy-bags out to the warehouse and leaving him there and coming out 2 hours after he asked for him to be picked up, I wasn’t going to be having any of this. Fuck spending all day out in the heat, and then not be able to go and get something to fuckin’ eat. Fuck that. After telling him that I was going to be driving out there myself, he had the biggest look of dejection on his face, it was awesome. Generally, whenever something like this gets done, there is a whole buttload of people that head out there, only because lifting things 35Kg+ in the sun gets to you after a while. It was good though, I was flying around on the forklift for half of the day while Tom did the other half. When we left, I was my normal pale colour and wasn’t dirty lookin’, it wasn’t until we got back to the store that I realised how dirty I was. By that time though, I was tired, but I didn’t feel fucked. It was only until I got home, had a shower and sat down in my chair that I realised that my bones hurt.
It’s now sunday, and I’m bored. I’m sitting here listening to some Nine Inch Nails and waiting.
