Glass Ambience

Expedition

Have you ever had one of those nights where you were trying to be spontaneous, and end up doing something that always backfires? Well, we managed one of those last night/this morning. I’ll start from the beginning. Originally, we (Terry, Tim, Craig) were going into town to meet up with Herrod and Glasby for some drinks and dancing. We meet them at lizards and made our way down to coles to get something to eat (well, for me at least). I think we eventually wound up in Shenaningans where I made the stupid mistake of making eye contact with some drunk bloke dancing on a table mad . The moment I had made eye contact, I knew then and there I was dead :-(. I think only 5 minutes later, the same bloke staggers over to a table near me with two beers, and he called me over. Honestly, I could not hear a word he was saying, other than his name was “The Beard” and that he was going to Wagga. After like 5 minutes of trying my best to get him to leave me alone, Herrod eventually “saved me” for what felt like 2 seconds, because the moment she left, he came back. After I managed to get away from him the second time, that was reason enough to leave and go to the next one.

So, from there we transgressed into the Lost Arc where we got in for free (go Herrod!). So we were in there dancing for a bit, even Timmy was dancing (for someone who said he doesn’t dance at the bar beforehand, that was pretty good). I think Terry and Craig had returned from some bikini model thing at the vic, and they had picked up someone from their work (Danielle). So yeah, Herrod and Glasby left us to our own demise at around 1:30 (or something around that time).

From there we all decided that we were going to go to the Rox to see if they had anything good on. Now because Tim is still 17, we were going to have to “sneak him in”. I kind of had it planned out, I was going to just about to pay, and then I was going to call him up next to me almost bypassing the bouncers so he can pay. Well, that failed miserably didn’t it? Tim had decided to give up his ID before he walked up to me, so it was a failed plan to begin with. But oh well, we took Tim home then not only because he couldn’t get in, but he also had to work the next morning. Anyway! We returned to the Rox, only to find that the god damn club was full of asians, and that we were all worried about being stabbed by some triad because we were dancing with one of their ladies, I was a little more worried because this asian girl kept trying to dance with me, but I saw some asian guy give me daggers every time she moved closer. So I did the sly thing, and slowly danced back to the bar. We eventually left there and made a beeline to the Vic.

There must be certain times that different type of people go, because when we were there, all of the gangster people were there just standing around as if they were waiting for their drugs to be delivered. We were upstairs in the Vic for a while dancing with the smallest crowd ever (there was like a total of 5 people dancing on the dancefloor). I think we travelled downstairs where all of the gangster people were and we danced to some rap music until like 4.

Now is where the fun starts to happen! On the drive home, someone had this BRILLIANT idea that we drive down to litchfield and go to the waterfalls and stuff down there for the day. I thought I had work the same day, so I was a little apprehensive in convincing myself into going. I think by the time we got to Craig’s house (to get some bathers), we had all decided that next week would be better, and not friday morning. We got back to daryl’s and jumped into his pool and was wading there for a while, when Terry and Craig decided, no, we’re going now! Eventually we made it on the road by about 5:30 (after we had Danielle’s dad saying to look after his daughter, we were a little :scared: that he was coming out to yell at us). So we’re about 15 minutes out of bachelor, when it decides to rain! Not rain-little-rain, but rain-pissing-down-rain. And what happens when it pisses down with rain in Darwin? Roads flood! We were driving along, and all of a sudden I saw water on the road.. well, it was more like I saw a road flooded with water. So I screamed out “WATER ON THE ROAD” and covered my head. So we cruise through this mini river on the road at like 90KM/h with the windows down.

Well, we managed to get to Buley rockhole in one piece when we trudged down to the water. Oh hey says the river, I’m going to be a flash-flooded river and be overflowing and running really fast! So we kind of boycotted the idea of sitting in the water in fear of being swepted away and being killed after being thrown onto rocks. Well, that’s what I thought, until Craig jumped in the middle area, and he decided to take the flowing water to the end of the hole. So that meant that he was going to go down about 4 mini (but still very fast flowing) waterfalls. The first time he went (yeah, there was a second time), he got air off the last waterfall because he was going so fast. The second time he went, he didn’t start from the same position as before, but right before where he got air last time. Well, obviously god had decided that once was lucky enough for him to be not hurt, as Craig had smashed his foot into a rock where he had missed before. I think Craig now has a really badly sprained ankle lol .

Of course, because while we were down there, we also had to visit Florence falls (which are down hundreds of steps at a really awkward angle) to see if we could swim there. It was quite a mission for Craig to be walking down the stairs when he could barely walk. We got down there to find that the little bridge that you had to walk across had water only just flowing over it, so if it rained anymore, we would have been dead. Again, because Terry and Craig are who they are, they had to jump off a ledge into the rapidly moving water below. Needless to say, Craig nearly got swept down the damn river because of his foot. It was absolutely hilarious me trying to stop him from being swept away though. So after Florence, we just boycotted the whole mission and decided that it was time to go home.

Well, the same road that was only slightly covered by water, was now a good half metre under water. At first I thought it was only a small amount of the road, but it kept going around a bend, and it got faster, and deeper, and scarier. We managed to get through with tourists filming us and taking photos. God it would have been a pretty sight, 3 blokes without shirts on probably looking still drunk, with one girl in the back seat with music playing driving through a flooded road. The tourists were impressed (by the look on their faces) that a sedan type car just drove straight through the water where as this giant truck had stopped (possibly afraid that they wouldn’t make it). Come on people!

We managed to crawl back into Darwin, with everyone saying “What a stupid idea this was!” and kind of regretting what spontanous activity we had done. Although it was quite an adventure, I’ll be sure to never do that during the wet season in the wee hours of the morning.

Some really crappy phone pictures, I don’t know what I did to make it look broken :-(
